side-notched
Flanks bearing cuts
Side-notched describes projectile points—arrowheads, spearheads, and similar stone tools—that have notches chipped into their sides rather than their base or corners.
These indentations create a waist where the point attaches to a shaft: side-notched points from the Archaic period.
The term is standard in archaeology for classifying lithic artifacts by hafting style.
