shock site
Traumatizing internet destination
A shock site is a website designed to disturb or disgust visitors, typically featuring graphic violence, extreme pornography, bodily functions, or other disturbing imagery.
These sites often spread through deceptive links—someone tricks you into clicking by disguising the URL or claiming it leads somewhere innocuous.
Notable examples from early internet culture became notorious precisely because unsuspecting visitors encountered content they couldn't unsee: He sent me a link that turned out to be a shock site.
