shared memory
Collective mental storage
Shared memory is a region of computer memory that multiple programs or processes can access simultaneously, allowing them to exchange data without copying it between them.
It's the fastest method of inter-process communication because data doesn't need to be transferred—both processes read and write the same location: The database uses shared memory for caching.
The term extends to any collaborative system where participants access common information.
