self-feeds
Consumes without assistance
Self-feeds describes someone or something that supplies its own nourishment or fuel without external assistance.
A baby who self-feeds has progressed beyond being spoon-fed by parents: She self-feeds now with her little spoon.
The term also applies to machines or animals that regulate their own intake: The stove self-feeds from the pellet hopper.
