scratch teams
Thrown together squads
Scratch teams are groups assembled hastily from whoever is available, without the usual selection process or training together.
The term comes from starting "from scratch"—from nothing.
Common in sports when regular players are unavailable, and in workplaces when ad hoc groups form for urgent projects: We pulled together a scratch team to handle the crisis.
