scrambled signal
Jumbled broadcast feed
A scrambled signal is a transmission that has been deliberately altered to prevent unauthorized reception.
Radio and television broadcasts, satellite feeds, and other communications can be scrambled so that only receivers with the proper decoder can unscramble and interpret them: Cable companies scramble premium channels for non-subscribers.
The term also applies to any signal rendered unintelligible, whether intentionally or through interference.
