satellite weapons
Space-based military hardware
Satellite weapons are military systems designed to attack targets in space or from space.
These include weapons that destroy or disable other satellites through kinetic impact, lasers, or jamming, as well as orbital platforms capable of striking ground targets.
The term covers both deployed systems and theoretical capabilities: The treaty would ban satellite weapons.
Most spacefaring nations officially oppose weaponizing space while developing such capabilities.
