runny yolk
Unset egg middle
A runny yolk is the liquid or semi-liquid center of an egg that hasn't been cooked long enough to solidify completely.
When you cut into a fried or poached egg and the golden yolk flows out, that's a runny yolk—prized by many for dipping toast or enriching dishes.
I like my eggs over easy so the yolk stays runny.
The term contrasts with a fully set or hard yolk, as in hard-boiled eggs.
