roping in

Getting someone involved

Roping in means recruiting or persuading someone to participate in something, often when they're reluctant or the task is unwelcome: They roped me in to help move furniture.

The image comes from lassoing cattle—once the rope's around you, you're committed.

The British variant is often rope in without the additional preposition.
