rolled gold

Bonded gold coating

Rolled gold is a thin layer of gold bonded to a base metal, typically brass, through heat and pressure.

It contains more gold than gold plating and wears better, but less than solid gold.

Common in vintage jewelry and watch cases: a rolled gold pocket watch, rolled gold cufflinks.

Also called gold-filled in American usage.
