ring systems
Saturn's iconic feature
Ring systems are the flat, disk-like structures of ice, rock, and dust that orbit certain planets, most famously Saturn.
All four gas giants in our solar system have ring systems, though Saturn's are by far the most visible and spectacular.
The term also appears in chemistry, where it refers to molecular structures containing closed loops of atoms: benzene has a six-membered ring system.
