return fraud
Fake return scheme
Return fraud is a problem for retailers, especially those who sell online.
It is the practice of returning goods that were not acquired from the retailer or that are not defective or broken, usually for a refund.
The problem arises because some retailers offer very liberal return policies, including cash refunds, in order to attract customers.
Return fraud damages businesses in two ways: products must be offered for resale as used or refurbished, and some customers abuse return policies, leading to tighter restrictions that may drive away business.
