red flag laws
Gun removal statutes
Red flag laws are statutes that allow courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed a danger to themselves or others.
A family member, law enforcement officer, or sometimes others can petition for an extreme risk protection order.
The gun owner typically gets a hearing within days or weeks to contest the order.
Also called ERPO laws.
