The distinctive earthy scent that rises from the ground during or after rain, especially following a dry spell.
The smell comes from oils released by plants and bacteria in soil, intensified when raindrops disturb the earth.
I love that rain smell in summer.
The technical term is petrichor, but most people just call it rain smell or the smell of rain.
