primate research
Monkey science field
Primate research is scientific study conducted on primates—apes, monkeys, and related species—typically to understand biology, behavior, cognition, or to develop medical treatments.
Because of the close evolutionary relationship between humans and other primates, such research often aims to gain insights applicable to human health and disease.
The field generates ongoing ethical debate about animal welfare and the moral status of our closest living relatives.
