primadonna

High-maintenance performer

Primadonna—from the Italian for "first lady"—originally meant the lead female singer in an opera company.

The term now more commonly describes someone who behaves as if they deserve special treatment, is temperamentally difficult, or throws tantrums when things don't go their way: The director refused to work with her again—total primadonna.

Also spelled prima donna.
