Prior to agreement
Pre-contract describes something occurring before a contract is signed or finalized: pre-contract negotiations, pre-contract medical examination.
In sports, especially soccer, a pre-contract agreement allows a player to commit to a new club before their current contract expires: He signed a pre-contract with the Italian side in January.
