pommelling

Beating with fists

Pommelling is the act of striking repeatedly with fists or similar blows—a sustained beating rather than a single punch.

The word comes from pommel, the rounded knob at the front of a saddle or the end of a sword hilt, both used historically for striking.

The boxer kept pommelling his opponent until the referee stopped the fight.
