political columnist
Government affairs commentator
A political columnist is a journalist who writes regular opinion pieces analyzing politics, elections, and government affairs for a newspaper, magazine, or website.
Unlike reporters who cover news objectively, columnists offer their own perspective and interpretation: She's been the paper's lead political columnist for fifteen years.
