player unions
Sports labor groups
Player unions are labor organizations representing professional athletes in collective bargaining with team owners and leagues.
They negotiate contracts covering salaries, working conditions, free agency rules, and benefits.
Major sports leagues each have one: the NFL Players Association, MLB Players Association, and so on.
The player union threatened to strike over the salary cap proposal.
