plastic bag levy
Carrier charge fee
A plastic bag levy is a small fee charged to customers who use disposable plastic bags at retail stores.
Implemented by governments to reduce plastic waste, the charge encourages shoppers to bring reusable bags: Since the plastic bag levy came in, I always keep a tote in my car.
Typically a few cents per bag, these levies have proven effective at dramatically reducing single-use bag consumption.
