pink slips
Job ending papers
Pink slips are notices of termination from employment.
The term comes from the color of paper once used for dismissal notices.
To get a pink slip is to be fired or laid off: Three hundred workers got pink slips when the plant closed.
As a verb, to pink-slip someone is to terminate their employment.
In a separate sense, a pink slip is an automotive title document—the paper proving vehicle ownership, historically printed on pink paper in some states: He signed over the pink slip when he sold the car.
