phototropic
Bending toward brightness
Phototropic describes organisms or parts of organisms that turn or grow in response to light.
Plants are the most familiar example: their stems are positively phototropic, bending toward a light source, while roots are often negatively phototropic, growing away from it.
The phototropic response of sunflowers keeps them facing the sun throughout the day.
The term applies broadly in biology to any light-directed movement or growth.
