pedal pushers

Mid-calf pants

Pedal pushers are close-fitting casual trousers that end at mid-calf, between shorts and full-length pants.

The name comes from their original purpose—pants short enough not to catch in a bicycle chain.

Popular in the 1950s and 60s, they've cycled in and out of fashion under various names including capris and cropped pants.
