pavement art

Pavement art is artwork created directly on sidewalks, plazas, or other paved surfaces, typically using chalk or pastels.

The term covers both elaborate three-dimensional illusions designed to be photographed from specific angles and simpler drawings by street artists.

Pavement art is inherently temporary, lasting until rain or foot traffic erases it: We stopped to watch a pavement artist creating a stunning trompe-l'oeil canyon.
