pastoral duties
Shepherding the flock
Pastoral duties are the responsibilities of a clergy member toward their congregation—visiting the sick, counseling the troubled, officiating at weddings and funerals, and generally tending to the spiritual welfare of parishioners.
The term derives from pastor's original sense of shepherd, with the congregation as flock.
The new minister was overwhelmed by pastoral duties in such a large parish.
