passenger screening
Traveler security inspection
Passenger screening is the security process of checking travelers and their belongings before allowing them to board aircraft, trains, or other transportation.
Screeners use metal detectors, X-ray machines, and pat-downs to identify weapons, explosives, or prohibited items: The passenger screening line stretched through the terminal.
The practice expanded dramatically after the September 11 attacks.
