panocha

Coarse sugar confection

Panocha has two distinct meanings depending on region.

In Mexican and Southwestern American cooking, it's a coarse brown sugar made from unrefined cane juice, used in traditional desserts and puddings.

In vulgar Spanish slang that has crossed into English, panocha is the vulva—equivalent to *pussy* in tone and taboo level.

Context usually makes clear which sense is intended: She made panocha candy for the holidays versus locker-room talk.
