pani puri

Hollow fried shells

Pani puri is a popular South Asian street food consisting of small, hollow, crispy spheres filled with spiced water, tamarind chutney, chickpeas, potatoes, and onions.

The name combines Hindi words for water (*pani*) and a fried bread (*puri*).

You crack a hole in the top, fill it with the tangy liquid, and eat it in one bite.

Also called golgappa or puchka in different regions.
