overconstrained
Excessively locked down
Overconstrained describes a system with more restrictions than necessary, creating conflict or impossibility.
In engineering and design, an overconstrained mechanism has too many fixed points, preventing proper movement or causing stress.
The term extends to any situation where competing requirements cannot all be satisfied: The schedule was overconstrained—we couldn't meet the deadline, the budget, and the quality standards simultaneously.
