orange peel texture
Bumpy paint finish
Orange peel texture describes a surface with a slightly bumpy, dimpled appearance resembling the skin of an orange.
The term appears most often in automotive painting, where it indicates an imperfect finish that didn't flow smooth before drying: The clear coat has some orange peel that needs wet sanding.
The same texture appears in drywall finishing, where it's intentional—sprayed on to hide imperfections and add visual interest.
Skin with enlarged pores or cellulite may also be described as having orange peel texture.
