opium-eater
Narcotic substance abuser
An opium-eater is a person who habitually consumes opium, typically by swallowing it rather than smoking it.
The term is nineteenth-century, most famously from Thomas De Quincey's *Confessions of an English Opium-Eater* (1821).
It now sounds archaic, having been displaced by *addict* and similar clinical terms.
