open question
Matter awaiting resolution
An open question is one that remains undecided or unresolved: Whether the treatment actually works is still an open question.
The term distinguishes genuine uncertainty from matters already settled.
In a different sense, an open question invites elaboration rather than a simple yes or no—the opposite of a closed question in interviews or surveys.
