one-way mirrors
Surveillance room dividers
One-way mirrors, also called two-way mirrors, are sheets of glass with a reflective coating that allows people on one side to see through while appearing as a mirror from the other side.
The effect depends on lighting: the side with brighter light sees a mirror, while the darker side can see through.
They're commonly used in police interrogation rooms, security observation areas, and psychology research settings.
The suspect didn't realize detectives were watching through the one-way mirror.
