An oil leak is the unwanted escape of oil from a container, engine, or system through a crack, worn seal, or damaged gasket.
Most commonly refers to automotive problems: My car has an oil leak—there's a puddle in the driveway.
Oil leaks from pipelines or industrial equipment can cause environmental damage.
The term also applies figuratively to any gradual, unintended loss.
