official emblems
National heraldic devices
Official emblems are symbols formally adopted by governments, organizations, or institutions to represent their identity and authority.
National flags, state seals, and coats of arms are common examples.
These differ from unofficial symbols in having legal recognition—misuse of official emblems may be regulated or prohibited: The official emblem of the United Nations features a world map surrounded by olive branches.
