novice class
For new participants
A novice class is a competitive division for beginners or those with limited experience in a sport, hobby, or skill.
Dog shows, equestrian events, and racing circuits commonly use novice classes to let newcomers compete against others at similar levels: She entered her puppy in the novice class.
Once competitors gain experience or win enough events, they typically move up to higher divisions.
