nonsynchronous

Out of phase

Nonsynchronous means not occurring at the same time or not operating in coordination.

In computing and communications, nonsynchronous (or asynchronous) systems don't require sender and receiver to be active simultaneously: Email is nonsynchronous—you send when convenient and they read when convenient.

The term contrasts with synchronous processes that must align in time, like live video calls or synchronized clocks.
