Nonpublished describes material that has not been made publicly available through formal publication channels.
The term appears mainly in legal and administrative contexts—nonpublished court opinions, for instance, lack precedential value and don't appear in official reporters.
Distinguished from unpublished, which is more common in general use, nonpublished often carries a technical or procedural sense: The ruling was designated nonpublished and cannot be cited as authority.
