non-linear narrative
Story without chronology
A non-linear narrative is a story told out of chronological order—jumping between time periods, rearranging events, or revealing information in fragments rather than sequentially.
Films like *Pulp Fiction* or *Memento* are classic examples.
The technique can create mystery, mirror how memory works, or let themes emerge through juxtaposition rather than progression: The novel's non-linear narrative slowly reveals why the protagonist left home.
