natural release
Unforced pressure relief
Natural release is a cooking term for letting pressure dissipate on its own in a pressure cooker or Instant Pot, rather than manually venting the steam.
The process takes ten to thirty minutes depending on the contents.
Natural release is preferred for foods that benefit from continued cooking or that might spatter through the vent: Let the stew natural release for fifteen minutes before opening.
