narrative essay
Written personal account
A narrative essay is a piece of writing that tells a story, typically from the author's personal experience.
Unlike academic essays that argue a thesis, narrative essays use storytelling techniques—characters, scenes, dialogue, and chronological structure—to convey meaning or insight.
The form is common in creative writing courses and college application essays: Her narrative essay about immigrating as a child moved the admissions committee.
