mucking up

Making a mess

Mucking up is making a mess of something, bungling or ruining it through carelessness or incompetence.

The phrase is British in origin and mildly vulgar, a softer substitute for "fucking up": Stop mucking up the schedule.

To muck something up is to spoil what was working or make a situation worse than before.
