morbid humor
Death-tinged comedy style
Morbid humor finds comedy in death, disease, suffering, and other grim subjects.
It treats dark material with lightness—joking about funerals, terminal illness, or catastrophe.
The appeal lies partly in transgression, partly in coping: Her morbid humor got her through chemo.
Also called dark humor, black humor, or gallows humor.
