Monk straps are dress shoes fastened with one or two broad straps and buckles across the instep, rather than laces.
The style originated with European monks and occupies a middle ground between the formality of oxfords and the casualness of loafers: He wore brown monk straps with his navy suit.
Double monk straps, with two buckles, are the more common contemporary version.
