modern thought
Today's intellectual climate
Modern thought refers to the intellectual traditions, philosophies, and ways of understanding the world that emerged from the Enlightenment onward—roughly the 17th century to the present.
It typically emphasizes reason, scientific method, individual rights, and progress over tradition and religious authority.
Modern thought challenges assumptions that earlier generations took for granted.
The phrase often appears in academic contexts or when contrasting contemporary perspectives with ancient or medieval worldviews.
