modern period
Current historical age
The modern period is a broad historical era generally understood to begin around 1500 CE and extend to the present, though historians debate its boundaries.
It encompasses the Renaissance, Enlightenment, Industrial Revolution, and the rise of nation-states, colonialism, and global capitalism.
Some scholars distinguish between the early modern period (roughly 1500–1800) and the modern period proper, while others separate out a contemporary or postmodern era beginning in the mid-20th century.
The course covers European history from the medieval through the modern period.
