military action
Deployment of troops
Military action is the use of armed forces to achieve an objective—anything from a limited strike to a full-scale invasion.
The term often appears in political contexts as a euphemism for war or as a way to describe operations short of declared war: The president authorized military action against the insurgents.
To take military action is to deploy force rather than pursue diplomatic solutions.
