middle aged
Neither young nor old
Middle aged describes the period of life between young adulthood and old age, roughly from the mid-forties to mid-sixties.
The boundaries are fuzzy and shift with life expectancy—what counts as middle aged keeps creeping upward.
The term often carries connotations of settling into routine, physical decline, or the infamous midlife crisis: a middle aged spread, middle aged aches and pains.
