maternalistic
Like a smothering mother
Maternalistic describes attitudes or behaviors that are nurturing and protective in a way that assumes others need motherly guidance or care.
Like paternalistic but with maternal overtones, it often carries a slightly condescending suggestion that the person being helped lacks the ability to manage on their own: Her maternalistic approach to managing the team left employees feeling infantilized.
